TheTextCounter ("we", "our", "the site") provides free text-analysis tools — including the Character Counter and Word Counter — that run entirely inside your web browser. This Privacy Policy explains what data, if any, we collect and how it is handled when you use TheTextCounter.com.

How Your Text Is Handled

The text you type, paste, or upload into any tool on this site is processed entirely on your own device, using JavaScript running in your browser. It is never transmitted to our servers, never stored by us, and never seen by anyone but you. Closing the tab or refreshing the page clears it completely, since nothing is saved outside your browser session.

File Uploads

The Upload feature reads files (.txt, .md, .rtf, .docx, .doc) directly in your browser to insert their contents into the editor. Uploaded files are never sent to any server — the entire process happens locally on your device.

Cookies and Local Storage

We use one functional cookie (NEXT_LOCALE) to remember your selected language, and your browser's local storage to remember your light/dark theme preference. Neither is used for tracking, profiling, or advertising, and neither contains any of the text you enter into the tools. See our Cookie Policy for more detail.

Analytics and Advertising

TheTextCounter does not currently use third-party analytics or advertising. If we introduce advertising in the future to help keep the site free, this policy will be updated in advance to disclose which providers are used and what data, if any, they collect.

Data We Do Not Collect

We do not require an account, do not ask for your name or email to use any tool, and do not log or store the content you type. We do not sell or share personal data, because we do not collect any through the tools themselves.

Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights over data collected about you, such as access, correction, or deletion. Since TheTextCounter does not collect or store your text or personal information on our servers, there is typically nothing to request beyond the cookie and local storage preferences described above, which you can clear at any time through your browser settings.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as the site evolves. Material changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date.
